Very early, the founder of Leman Commodities SA recognized that Ukraine had substantial mining and industrial resources, but could not offer the same competitive advantages in terms of international trade as a global trade centre. This is the reason why Leman Commodities (which became Metinvest International SA in December 2007) was established in 1997 in Geneva.
Twelve years later, Metinvest International is one of the largest international steel trading companies in the world thanks to long lasting business relationship with local and international partners, banks and clients.
In 2008, Metinvest International continued its strong growth despite the unfavorable world economic situation in the last quarter:
Today, Metinvest International handles 9% of the world market for pipes, 9% for merchant slabs, 12% for merchant square billets, and 4% for heavy plates.
